My name is Kim Myers. I'm the branch head of the Technical Information Center, located at Colorado vision and whispah Thesz de Maryland. The main mission of the Technical Information Center is to provide scientists and engineers with the most up-to-date and current research materials. We do this in a couple of ways. Firstly, we help them by providing research directly to them. Secondly, we assist them in finding the areas where they can access the research themselves. Over the years, we have learned that many people believe that if they can't find something, it doesn't exist. However, the type of research we deal with is often highly specific and can only be found in key areas. We have established relationships with various organizations such as DoD and academia to ensure we can access the information they are looking for. We offer three different types of research capabilities. Firstly, we have a hardcopy library with over 5,000 books, current and historical journals, and other materials. Secondly, we have a tool called Scribe, which allows researchers to conduct and view their research on their desktops. Lastly, we have a tool called Research Commons, which provides access to over 400 online journals. Research Commons is the result of a collaboration between us and the Newport Naval Warfare Center. By combining our resources, we were able to access a larger amount of material at a lower cost. As a result, three other warfare centers have decided to join our collaboration. We recently completed two upgrades at the TIC: a physical upgrade and an electronic upgrade. Our collaboration with MIT through the MIT Industrial Liaison Program has been beneficial for us. It not only provides us with access to MIT's research material but also their programs.
